We are supporting a local charity, based in Newport, in their search for a Homelessness Outreach Worker for the next few months.
You'll be part of the early morning "breakfast run" - going out in to the community to connect with those who are sleeping rough across Newport.
What are the details?
- This is a full time contract
- 40 hours per week
- it's an early start and early finish
- 6.30am to 3pm
- Monday to Friday only
- No weekends or bank holidays
- 2 to 3 month contract
- Possibility of being extended past 3 months
- Options to apply for the permanent position
- £12.80 per hour
- Equivalent to a £26,624 per year salary
What will you do?
- You will be part of a two person team of outreach workers
- Going out in to the community
- Handing out tea, coffee and breakfast to rough sleepers
- Connecting with them to assist in securing temporary
- Once the breakfast run is over, you'll link in with other teams to assist with homelessness support
- Working with adults 18+ who are engaged with various services
- Multi-agency working - with other charities, local authority and other providers
- Providing emotional and practical support
- Helping out with other teams as required
What do we need?
- A driver is ESSENTIAL as you will be driving around the Newport area.
- Homelessness support experience will be a distinct advantage.
- Knowledge of other complex issues e.g. substance misuse, mental health, challenging behaviours etc.
- If you have worked in Social Care, housing or another supportive environment...you will be considered
- Excellent knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
- Able to keep up to date records.
- Knowledge of other services in the local area.
- The desire to help and support others.
- You'll be empathetic and compassionate and non-judgemental.
- A DBS on the update service is essential.
