2022 Roundup: Moxie’s Mega Moments

2022 is coming to an end, and what a year it’s been. The Moxie team had to have a sentimental moment and reflect back on how brilliant and challenging of a year it’s been.

So sit back, relax and have a read of some of Moxie’s favourite moments of the year.

Moxie People's Year Review

It's been a busy but exciting time to be a part of the Moxie team, and we’ve hit some amazing milestones along the way. Let's check them out.

  • We managed to directly impact over 130 people’s lives… by helping them find meaningful employment in the Welsh housing and charity sectors. As a result, these successful candidates have not only aided in making their organisation more efficient but in-turn we’ve been able to positively impact the day to day lives of countless line managers and HR teams.
  • The Moxie family grew this year with the additions of the awesome Chloe Babel who’s starting up a desk focused on decarbonisation and renewables as the Welsh Government’s decarbonisation initiative kicks off. We also employed our first senior hire, Caryl Thomas, who’s doing a brilliant job of taking the Moxie visions to the world of HR recruitment. Welcome to the team both.
  • It’s an amazing feeling when you find your right career path, and we’re not just talking about the candidates we help find their perfect job, the Moxie team experience this feeling too. Our Keeran, who celebrated his first Moxie birthday in 2022, has found his calling in life and has gone on to make a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of people by matching up caring and passionate people with some of the hardest to fill support worker roles in supported housing.
New team members, Caryl and Chloe
  • With more Moxie team members comes more services. We’ve extended our offering to housing associations and charities, thanks to Caryl and Chloe’s expertise in HR and decarbonisation. This means that we’ve been able to help support recruiting for the social housing sector in even more ways and help make a positive impact on our local communities.

  • Hey MTV, welcome to our crib. We moved to our very first office in One Central Square in May of this year with the help of our wonderful friends at Tramshed Tech. This has been a dream come true, not just because of all the fun decorating, but because we now have dedicated space where the Moxie way can thrive.

  • We also hit the one hundred + five-star review milestone on Google. It was lovely to look back at the reviews and see first-hand the benefits of putting people first and seeing how with Moxie’s help, people have found a career for life. A huge thank you to everyone that took the time to write one of these heart-warming reviews, we all really appreciate it!

  • It was also awards season. We had the honour of attending a number of award shows during 2022; we were finalists for both the Employer of the Year and Professional Services awards at the prestigious Cardiff BusinessAwards, which was a fantastic night as we celebrated receiving a commendation for our impact in the community, and it was great to celebrate with all the other Cardiff businesses. And we were pleased as punch to win the Professional Services National Start-Up Award for our impact and service to the Welsh housing and charitable sectors. This was thanks to amazing effort of the whole Moxie team, so well done guys.

  • It really has been a year of awards for Moxie and our Working Wardrobe initiative. Working Wardrobe was selected as a finalist for the National Welsh Housing Association Awards back in November for the support we provide to the community. It was an incredible night filled with laughs and cheer with our friends and partners, and the night was made even more special by sharing it with a room full of over great housing associations and professionals that do so much work for people in our community.
  • And finally, we had the best time ever delivering a number of employability webinars to Cardiff Metropolitan students on the Youth & Communities Programme. The programme trains people to respond to the current and emerging needs of young people and communities, so we were well and truly excited to get involved and share our expertise and insights around all things recruitment – the Moxie way.

Working Wardrobe's Best Bits of 2022

But it’s not just Moxie that we’re proud of, Working Wardrobe has also earned some amazing achievements in 2022 that we’ve got to shout about. As a reminder, or, if you're new to this initiative, The Working Wardrobe project donates interview clothing to people looking for work in our communities across South Wales.

  • Two New Hubs Opened

Well, it’s safe to say 2022 was a year of expansion for Working Wardrobe; two brand new hubs were opened in Rhondda Cynon Taff with Newydd and another in Blaenau Gwent with our friends at TaiCalon. These new hubs will help those in the local area who have interviews and need professional and business clothing feel confident and prepped for the big day.

But wait, there’s more – there are further plans for three more hubs to open in early 2023 in Cardiff and Monmouthshire, so watch this space.

  • Happy 1st Birthday to us

This is a pretty big one, the first ever Working Wardrobe hub which is located in Caerphilly turned one in September – happy belated birthday! Within its first year of opening, we’ve helped over 130 people gain access to interview clothing and work wear, and we also aided over 20 people to attend interviews. Brilliant work, team Caerphilly (Platfform, Working Families & United Welsh)!

  • Our fundraising raised a massive £10,000

We weren’t exaggerating when we said 2022 was a big year for Working Wardrobe, and we had the privilege of hosting the Working Wardrobe launch back in March alongside the brilliant Jason Mohammad. A massive £10K was raised which will go towards Working Wardrobe being able to grow and help even more people in Wales.

We also had the opportunity to share the Working Wardrobe story and mission to hundreds of people and businesses, whether that was face-to-face or virtually. At Moxie, we love to spread the word of what an amazing charity initiative Working Wardrobe is (even if we do say so ourselves 💁‍♂️) and everything it does for local communities.

  • We worked with 16+ local and national businesses to run internal clothing drives to support the Circular Economy

A little help often goes a long way, whether that’s people helping us or us helping them. This year, we’ve had the opportunity to work with 16+ local & national businesses to help them set up and run internal clothing drives which were then donated to Working Wardrobe. Drives like this and local donations have helped Working Wardrobe to prevent hundreds of clothing items from going to landfill. A big thanks to all those who have got involved – we couldn’t do this without you!

We also held our first Corporate Volunteering Day with Companies House, and their help meant more donations could be collected, organised and put on display for those who need them.

The Moxie Foundation

The Moxie Foundation also has some shining moments throughout this year that we think everyone should know about, so here they are:

Some new faces joined us

The Moxie Foundation also received new board members, Tom Froggatt, Managing Director at Singular Talent, and Lucy Heskins, Director at Oh Blimey Startup Marketing, who will both provide additional expertise and help us make the Foundation thrive so that we can have even greater impact. Welcome on-board, team.

Six grants were awarded

We’re very grateful to have received funding and grants throughout the year which have aided us in investing more into the Foundation and in turn help more people and communities. We were awarded six grants throughout 2022 to support job seekers across South Wales, and we also allocated £3272.60 through our 5% donation of Moxie profits for the year.

The Moxie Team's Best Bits of the Year

And finally, here’s a chance to hear from our team themselves what their favourite memories are from 2022, so let’s take a trip down memory lane to finish off the year with the teams’ Mega Moxie Moments:

Chloe:

“My top Moxie moment was getting my first perm placement and how rewarding it felt to help someone get a job they were so passionate about and seeing all the hard work pay off. I appreciate I

haven’t been here too long, but I already know that there will be many more feel-good memories to come.”

Keeran:

“My top moment of 2022 was helping a lady go from a part-time temp cleaning role with Tai Calon, to a 3-month FTC as a Repairs Admin with no prior experience, then to being offered a long-term position with them.

She had low self-confidence and almost cancelled the interview, so I supported, encouraged, and prepped her for the interview, and she landed the job… a job she thought would never be attainable! Now she’s started a career in social housing and couldn’t be happier. Properly gives me the good feels when I think about it.”

Caryl:

“My favourite moment to date was helping an applicant to finally land a really important talent acquisition role for a Welsh substance misuse charity. Knowing that this opportunity not only helps her to further her career, but also relocate to Swansea to finally be with her partner, was hugely satisfying.”

Sam:

“My favourite moment of 2022 was being able to support a candidate into a new role who had

recently graduated with a master’s in Health & Safety after entering Wales as a refugee in 2015.

His passion for the social housing sector and supporting local communities shone through and after impressing in his interview and securing the role, he quickly become an invaluable asset to organisation and is now loving life in the Welsh social housing sector.”

Rich:

“My best moment are the partnerships we’ve created and strengthened with so many inspirational charities, it’s something I wake up proud of every day. This year we’ve helped Welsh charities recruit into several senior/business-critical roles and we’ve enabled charities to recruit whole staff teams on a tight turnaround for several new and innovative services.

Knowing that our work helps ease pressure on the everyday lives of hundreds of inspirational support workers, managers, and HR teams, whilst ensuring some of our society’s most vulnerable people are getting the support they need, is what still gets me out of bed every day, even after 13 years.”

Nicely said guys. Well, that’s a wrap on 2022, it’s been emotional, but now onto bigger and better things in 2023 – see you all there!
